The real estate market in Ciutat Vella
Known as Barcino two thousand years ago, the oldest part of Barcelona preserves from the remains of the Roman city to architectural gems of medieval Gothic.
Ciutat Vella, is not only the first district of Barcelona, but also the origin of the modern and artistic metropolis that it is today. Divided into four different neighborhoods, each of them has played an important role in the construction of a city that today attracts millions of people each year.
On the one hand, the Gothic district is the oldest urban area and the most representative axis of Catalan politics. Not only for hosting the Palace of the Generalitat and the Barcelona City Council, in the Plaza Sant Jaume, but also housing some of the most important commercial institutions and hubs.
Price per square meter
Like Avda Portal del Angel, the most expensive shopping street in Spain. Renting a place there costs around 270 euros per square meter per month. While an average property owned by the Gothic moves around 4,900 euros per square meter.
On one side we find the Raval. An urban network with its own personality and heterogeneous population, where you can find historical buildings such as the old Santa Creu Hospital and large buildings such as the Drassanes or urban villas of the time, such as Gaudi's Palace Güell.
At the end of the 20th century, the neighborhood incorporated new equipment and transmittable axes, such as the Rambla del Raval. And it gained importance as a residential and tourist neighborhood until overcoming the barrier of 4,000 euros per square meter.
Fashionable places and Gothic buildings
Precisely, on the other side of the Gothic, we find a neighborhood as historic as it is open to new trends: Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, El Born and La Ribera. It is the core of the medieval city. An area where trendy places match Gothic buildings and modern restaurants open their doors in front of medieval palaces.
After its last renovation, the cultural facilities and open spaces have gained space for visitors and locals. A redesign that has modernized a neighborhood of artists. Known in its time as the Montmartre of Barcelona. Today Born and Ribera is among the most sought-after neighborhoods in the city, with an average price of around 5,200 euros per square meter.
Finally, we must also highlight the Barceloneta. The most maritime neighborhood of Barcelona, built next to the city's port in the mid-eighteenth century. And today it has become an area of tourist interest and Mediterranean life.
An area that is not only unique but also important for the real estate market. For its unique urbanism and its characteristic apartments. The most expensive, by area, of the entire old quarter of Barcelona: 5,200 euros per square meter.
