This is the first NBA themed restaurant which opens in Europe
After an intensive search in which it was thought that the project have been stopped, the NBA will open in late summer its first themed restaurant in Europe. The premises, which will be located on the Ramblas, will have a cafeteria area, restoration, sale of merchandising and giant screens where you can see the last matches of the professional basketball league in the United States. It will not be possible to see them live, since the restaurant will not be open at dawn, but the matches which begins before that hour, will be televised.
The search was long, as the NBA shuffled several location, and they finally are going to settle in the city. The list included the former Foneria de Canons and the Palace of Cinema of the Via Laietana, although they were discarded and opted for a place in the district of Ciutat Vella, particularly in the Ramblas. The large number of tourists and locals who walk through this central avenue -one hundred million a year passersby-, have made the NBA choose this location to open its first store in Europe.
The American basketball association has partnered with the local restaurant chain AN Grup, who runs restaurants in Barcelona known as Txapela, Mussol and Attic, among others. Specifically, this last restaurant mentioned, is supposed to possibly host the themed restaurant. The work on the establishment began a few days ago with the limited partnership under the name ANGR Basket Café which was formed last October, suggests that it is likely that the restaurant is installed here.
The establishment will have 500 square meters and giant screens to broadcast the matches. The idea is that this ‘NBA coffee’, very similar to Hard Rock Cafe style, becoming a powerhouse for basketball activities. Barcelona has a long tradition in this sport and the Olympic Games in 1992 helped to forge this link, thanks to the legendary Dream Team of Michael Jordan and Michael Johnson who played in that event.
The news disclosed by Rac1 was very well received by the Amics of the Rambla Association, as they argue, not only will provide a ‘quality’ business and global reputation to the famous avenue, but also to attract even more tourists which will motivate the Barcelona neighbors to walk through the Ramblas.
