The economic recovery is strengthened in Spain, either by the increase in the number of millionaires or by the rebound of net wealth in households. So says World Wealth Report 2016.
Although little by little, the number of rich people in Spain returns to the positive path. These are residents with a minimum net worth of one million dollars, from 379,000 in 2015 to 386,000 in 2016.
The latest ‘Global Wealth Report 2016′, prepared by Credit Suisse, includes our country among those attracting more millionaires. We gathered 7,207 new great fortunes, compared to more than 400,000 who have fled the United Kingdom.
At the level of net wealth we have also improved. Compared with the 64,521 dollars of an adult person in 2000, we reached 116,320 in 2016. Especially in non-financial assets.
Indicators of an exit to the crisis in the head platoon of the world economy.
Top 10 in number of millionaires
Spain is the tenth country where the number of rich people grows the most, with fortunes of at least one million dollars (approx. € 900,000).
As opposed to the 379,000 millionaires of 2015, this year a total of 386,000 people have been reached. Not to mention the ultrarichs with more than 50 million dollars that are 1,487
In the same group as us, although at the top, are Japan and the United States. The Japanese nation has gained 738,000 new fortunes (2,826 people in total), while the increase of US millionaires has been 283,000 (13,554 in total).
Spain is the third European country that more wealthy residents wins, after Germany that adds 44,000 and Belgium with 16,000. And it shares place with Ireland that counts on another 7,000 new fortunes.
On the other side of the ranking are the countries that lose most. United Kingdom which leaves 406,000 people out, Switzerland losing 58,000 and China having 43,000 fewer.
The Great Escape from the UK
The most striking feature of the ‘World Wealth Report’ is the 15% escape from the UK millionaires.
Given that the report includes data from the second half of 2015 and the first half of 2016, we can point out Brexit as the main responsible for this loss.
The wealth of British households fell by $ 1.5 billion through June 2016. 10% less in just 12 months.
Months before the referendum and, especially after the result, the exchange rates and the stock market was falling progressively.
And today, the outlook is very uncertain both for the British economy and for the wealth of their homes.
Opening up the possibility for other countries to attract some of their residents and companies.
More wealth in Spanish homes
This year, the evolution of the net wealth in the homes of our country returns the positive path.
The World Wealth Report is based on data from the year 2000, when the average wealth per adult was $ 64,521. Numbers that were increasing and that arrived after the exit of the crisis to its better year, the 132,732 dollars of 2013.
Since then we have been falling to 121,760 (2014) and 116,099 (2015). And it is now when we raise slightly, closing June 2016 with $ 116,320.
A soft growth but consolidates that 56% of the Spanish population claiming to belong to the middle class, according to Credit Suisse.
