Formentera is a quiet and comfortable place on the Mediterranean shore, where visitors and locals live together without breaking with the magical environment of this small Balearic Island.

Located in front of both the quiet and natural island of Menorca and the internationally famous island of Ibiza, Formentera is a pleasant place worth visiting together with family or friends.

It is situated just 3.5 kilometres south away from Ibiza. There isn´t airport service in Formentera, so the only way to reach it is by boat, after a short relaxed journey.

Formentera is not especially known for its nightlife. On the contrary, its unique charm lies in its hidden corners, not frequently walked by many tourists.

Far from the Iberian glam, Formentera has been successful in protecting its original natural landscapes, keeping a balance between nature and comfort for locals and tourists.

Both locals and tourists from all over the world are part of a single community, encompassing lovers of the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Formentera Island: its History

After being ruled by both conquerors and pirates, Formentera has experienced a huge transformation, together with its neigbour Ibiza. Its history made Formentera one of the most well-known islands of the Mediterranean Sea, as from the second half of the 20th century.

Many artist and authors, such as Julio Verne, have been inspired by the most hidden corners of this island. Undoubtedly, one of these corners is La Mola Cliffs, where Julio Verne seemed to have found a source of inspiration to write “The lighthouse at the end of the world“.

It´s an entirely natural environment, where no skyscrapers are to be found but impressive beaches and corners will leave people with their mouths open. These particular features attracted bohemian artists during the 60s and the 70s.

Moreover, the world of music has surrendered itself to this island. For example, soloists Bob Dylan and bands like Pink Floyd took advantage of the island to rush from crazy Ibiza and find shelter there.

Today, other people are looking forward to escaping from their routines and finding their hippie roots. We are referring to holidaymakers arriving on cruises, adventurous travellers looking for a quiet place or tourists with their luxury yachts.

None of the visitors dares to break with the peace existing between them and the island´s nature. Even the sand dunes around beaches are protected by wooden footbridges.

Ibiza´s little sister (seven times smaller) has 69 kilometres of coast, where beaches and cliffs break with the notorious flatness of the land.

Its Mediterranean vegetation, extensive dunes and native forests live together with its old “vernacular” architecture, mirrored on their houses.

The island itself, together with its two other small islands (Espalmador and Espardell) host almost 12,000 inhabitants who came from different parts of the world.
