The best polo players are gathering together to participate in one of the most prestigious tournaments. Barcelona Polo Challenge is back and intends to move the audience in the extraordinary field of Real Club de Polo de Barcelona.
The equestrian world is closely related to the history of Catalonia and Barcelona itself. That´s why Real Club de Polo de Barcelona (1897) is the oldest sports club in Spain.
This feature has been strengthening for the last 3 years due to the designation of Barcelona as the capital of the equestrial world. This leading role in the equestrian environment has given the city the chance to take part in several equestrian events, events that are included in Barcelona Equestrian Challenge (BECH).
Most of the competitions and events have been organized by Real Club de Polo Barcelona (RCPB) and Live Barcelona has already presented one of them called Barcelona´s International Jumping Competition (CSIO), an event that is part of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™.
The next appointment with the equestrian world is Barcelona Polo Challenge, undoubtedly one of the greatest events for sports lovers and those who are passionate about equestrian tourism.
The 47th International Polo Tournament in Barcelona is taking place this April 25th and 26th and May 1st, 2nd and 3rd, an event worth attending!
Polo, a “game of thrones”
Many people believe polo is the oldest team sport ever. This competition of Persian origin has more than 2500 years of history and used to be considered a free-time activity for both kings and emperors.
After its arrival to England during the second half of the XIX century and its designation as olympic sport in 1936, polo, also known as the “game of thrones“, finally reached the summit.
Athletes are not the only ones who enjoy this game. The audience is also offered an intense and exciting high-level polo match, which will make people literally be with their mouths open.
It is a duel between two teams with four players each, in which man and beast join their souls to participate in this authentic team sport. The rider unfolds his ability and experience, while the thoroughbred horse inspires admiration with its agility and speed.
Being a fascinating sport, polo is above all the rest of the equestrian activities due to the intense and vibrant atmosphere created during the games.

Polo in Catalonia
There are three official polo clubs in Catalonia, two of which in the province of Girona and another one, the oldest of them, in the province of Barcelona.
Club de Polo Ampurdan (Las Tres Casas 17742 Avinyonet de Puigventos, Girona) is half a way long between the French border and Cap de Creus (Costa Brava).
Club de Polo Sant Antoni de Viladrau (Carretera de Vic Camí de la Sala, Girona) is located at the bottom of the incredible Parque Natural del Montseny, a fantastic natural park in which to practise equitation and any other kind of sport.
Real Club de Polo de Barcelona (Avda Doctor Gregorio Marañón, 17-31, Barcelona), situated in Pedralbes, is the host of important tournaments, such as the already mentioned Barcelona Polo Challenge (April), Gran Premi Ciutat de Barcelona (November) and the rest of the local tournaments in Spain and Catalonia.
The equestrian world is again the main character of the Catalan capital, home of Barcelona Polo Challenge and international capital of equitation.
